League News

2024 Registration
March 11, 2024

The BMFL is back for the 2024 season with all games to be played at the new-look Blackburn arena diamond. All 6 squads from last season are expected to return and the league is looking into expansion with a 7th team.

Registration is now open, and as always, we welcome new players looking to join the league. As per previous years, payment is to be sent via e-transfer to bmfltreasurer@gmail.com.  Please ensure that the transfer clearly indicates the name of the player being registered.

The cost for 2024 is $300 with an anticipated 18-game regular season and double-knockout bracket playoff. Early-bird pricing includes a $25 discount if the full $275 is paid prior to April 1, so get your payments in to take advantage of this offer. Any questions about the league or registration can be directed to Derek Bergeron (bergeronderek@gmail.com) and Mike Brownhill (mikebrownhill@gmail.com).

The season will start as early as May 2 (or when the city allows access to the diamonds) and runs into the fall, with the regular season usually ending before Labour Day and playoffs completed by end of September.

Playoff Update #6
September 28, 2023

Goodfellows defeated the Bandits 2-0 Tuesday night to advance to the finals against Los Caballos. Shannon Borho had the complete game shutout. Chris MacFarlane went yard. Max Lalonde and Tyler Alexander threw 3 innings each for the Bandits, ending an impressive run in the post-season.

Los Caballos need only one win to claim the BMFL title for a 2nd straight year. Goodfellows will need to win 3-straight starting tonight. Finals begin at 8:00 pm on Thursday, September 28, at Pierre Rocque in Orleans.

Playoff Update #5
September 25, 2023

The number 6th ranked Bandits eliminated the Rogues with a 6 to 4 win, surpassing their regular season wins. Max Lalonde earned the win and Tyler Alexander also threw for the Bandits. Matt Cox had the loss and had relief from Derick Bulley. Down 4-2, the Bandits rallied in the 5th inning and scored 4 runs in the 5th inning to take the 6-4 lead and held on. Tyler Alexander hit a home run for the Bandits.

Goodfellows and Los Caballos was suspended after an injury on the field. Play resumed on Sunday with Los Caballos winning 11-0. Will Lowe had the win and Shannon Borho took the loss with relief from spare Nick Bowman.

Next up is the Bandits vs Goodfellows on Tuesday at 7 pm at Pierre Rocque. Loser is eliminated and the winner will play Los Caballos, needing to beat them 3 times to capture the championship. 

Playoff Update #4
September 20, 2023

The Bandits eliminated the Blue Jays with a 18 to 6 win. Seb Rodrigue had the W for the Bandits, throwing 3 innings. Max Lalonde pitched 2 in relief. Andre Mainville threw all 5 for the Jays, with Anthony De Carlo going deep for the Blue Jays.

Goodfellows defeated the Rogues 11 to 1. Shannon Borho picked up the complete game W for Goodfellows. Chris MacFarlane hit a 3-run shot in the first. Derick Bulley threw all 7 for the Rogues and Jose Sandoval hit a solo shot.

Next up, Los Caballos play Goodfellows Thursday at 7 pm at Pierre Rocque in Orleans, and the Rogues battle the Bandits at 9pm in an elimination game.

Playoff Update #3
September 13, 2023

The Blue Jays defeated the Braves 2-1 with Andy Barber picking up the win and Nick Bowman the loss. Sean Murphy hit an inside the park homerun for the Braves in the second inning. In the bottom of the seventh, Spencer Rodd hit a two out triple. After intentionally loading up the bases, Matt Ellis hit a walk-off single scoring two runs to win the game for the Blue Jays and eliminate the Braves.

Rogues beats the Bandits 16-4. Rogues bats stayed hot, with Derick Bulley going yard twice, including his second straight game with a grand slam. He also picked up the W on the mound. Max Lalonde started for the Bandits and hit a 3-run shot to help his cause. Seb Rodgrigue pitched in relief.

Los Caballos got a bye to finals as a result of a Goodfellows forfeit.

Next games are Tuesday, September 19 at 7 pm and 9 pm at Pierre Rocque in Orleans with the Blue Jays playing against the Bandits and Goodfellows against the Rogues.

Playoff Update #2
September 10, 2023

On Tuesday night, Los Caballos got by the Rogues 11-1. Will Lowe had the complete game win. Jonady Nunez had two HRs off each Rogues pitchers. Derick Bulley had the start for the Rogues and split duties with Matt Cox on the mound. 

In the late game, the Bandits beat the Blue Jays 14-4. Max Lalonde picked up the win and Andre Mainville threw for the blue birds. Andy Barber had a HR for the Jays.

On Thursday night, the Rogues beat the Braves 11-8. A back and forth affair between two evenly matched clubs. Derick Bulley picked up the W in 4 innings of relief, Matt Cox started and went 3. Derek Bergeron had a night, hitting two 2-run homers, and Bulley helped his cause by hitting a grand slam in the 6th. Nick Bowman threw for the Braves.

Next games are Sunday, September 10 in Carlsbad Springs.

Playoff Update #1
September 4, 2023 (Updated September 6, 2023)

Game 1 of the BMFL playoffs saw the Goodfellows beat the Braves 3-2. Shannon Borho picked up the win and also drove in two runs in the top of the 7th to give Goodfellows the lead. Nick Bowman took the loss.

Rogues won game 2 6-0 against the Bandits. Derick Bulley went the distance for the complete game shutout, allowing only two hits while fanning 14, and hit a HR to help his cause. Max Lalonde threw for the Bandits.

Game 3 saw Goodfellows beat the Blue Jays 3-0. Shannon Borho got the win, throwing a one-hitter. Andy Barber picked up the loss with at least 14ks. Chris MacFarlane had a solo shot in the 4th. 

Next games are Tuesday at 7 and pm at Pierre Rocque Park in Orleans featuring Los Caballos against the Rogues and the Bandits against the Blue Jays. The Braves will play the loser of the first game at 8 pm 9 pm on Thursday at Pierre Rocque.

2023 BMFL Playoffs
August 27, 2023 (Updated August 30, 2023)

The 2023 BMFL playoffs get underway on Tuesday. Some big changes for 2023. In light of the reduced schedule, the playoff format has been changed from double knockout to triple knockout. In addition, the Blackburn arena diamond will no longer be available in September due to renovations. As of September, weekday games will take place at Pierre Rocque and Sunday games are tentatively scheduled for the diamond in Carlsbad.

Game 1 of the playoffs will feature number 4 ranked Braves vs the number 5 ranked Goodfellows at 7 pm in Blackburn. Nick Bowman will be on the mound for the Braves and Shannon Borho for the Goodfellows. Goodfellows won the regular season series with a 2-0-1 record.

Winner of that game will face off against the number one ranked Blue Jays, led by Andy Barber, on Thursday at 8 pm 9 pm in Blackburn.

Game 2 of the playoffs will feature number 3 ranked Rogues against number 6 ranked Bandits at 9 pm in Blackburn. Derick Bulley and Matt Cox pitch for the Rogues and Max Lalonde and Tyler Alexander pitch for the Bandits. Rogues swept the season series 3 games to none.

Winner of that game will face off against Los Caballos, led by Will Lowe in the mound. They averaged 7.5 runs per game with home runs playing a large part.

2023 BMFL Season

The 2023 BMFL season is kicking off on Tuesday, May 16 with a 6 team league. Games are scheduled Tuesday at 7 pm and 9 pm, Thursday at 9 pm and Sunday at 6 pm and 8 pm at the Blackburn arena diamond.

April 19, 2023

Registration for the 2023 BMFL season is still open and the league is still looking for players, including pitchers and catchers. Cost to register is $250 and games are held Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday at the Blackburn arena diamond. Los Caballos Captures 2022 BMFL Championship

2020 Season Update
July 9, 2020

To all BMFL players and fans, The BMFL has decided to shut down for the 2020 Season due to the COVID-19 pandemic and it’s devastating affects on our society. The risks associated with resuming play for 2020 are deemed to be too high. All 2019 rosters will carry over to 2021. Players who have already paid in full may carry over their fee to 2021 and be locked in at that rate In the event of a fee increase. Refunds of fees will also be provided to those seeking one. 2020 BMFL Registration Update

Hello,
Our in person registration date is set for March 30th, 2020.  It will be at the Blackburn Arms from 7:30-9:30pm. The fee structure will be $230 for payments (paid in full) until March 30th. All payments on March 30 or later will be $250. Payments can be made by cash or cheque (payable to BMFL) at our in person registration dates. We also accept etransfer payments to our League Treasurer Mike Brownhill (mikebrownhill@gmail.com). Please make the password BMFL2020 and include the players name in comments. The schedule will also be released closer to the start of the season. We anticipate starting the regular season in May and be playing one or two games per week on Sunday, Tuesday or Thursday evenings. All games held at the Blackburn Arena Diamond. 2019 BMFL Playoffs
August 27, 2019

The 2019 BMFL playoffs get underway on Tuesday. It’s a double knockout format.

Regular season champions, Goodfellows, get a bye in the first round after posting an impressive 13-3-2 record. They are led by lefties Shannon Borho and Will Lowe. Goodfellows will look to continue their strong offense output and solid defense into the post season; they were plus 73 in runs for and against.

First match up of the playoffs at 7 pm will see number 2 ranked Blue Jays face off against the Knights, ranked 7. The Blue Jays will have Andy and Jeff Barber toe the rubber and they will pitch in offensively as well. Catcher Spencer Rodd will also look to continue his stellar hitting into the playoffs. The Knights are looking to bounce back after a rough regular season. Ryan Chatten and Jamie Blakey will be throwing and Chris McFarlane will look to spur the offense via the long ball.

Second match at 9 pm on Thursday will have the number 3 ranked Rogues play against the number 6 ranked Bandits. Only 1 point separates teams ranked 3 to 6. The Rogues will look to continue their best regular season finish in a number of years. Perennial innings pitched contender, Matt Cox, will do most of the pitching and the team will look for offensive contributions from the whole lineup. The Bandits will send veteran Pierre Lalonde to the mound. The long ball has played an important part of the offense for the Bandits with Max Lalonde, Vincent Gascon and Phil Bédard in the top 10 for homeruns hit.

The lone Thursday match is at 7 pm and will have the number 4 Bytek Braves against number 5 N-Powerment Elite in what has become an annual event. Expect a lot of offense out of this matchup. Bytek will have Nick Bowman and Will Mood to toe the rubber and will be led by Jeremy Regan and Matt Bowman offensively. The Elite will send Derick Bulley to the mound who will also lead the offense. Ryan Mitts and Marcel Mondoux will also contribute offensively.

2019 New Player Evaluation

 UPDATE:

Due to poor weather we are rescheduling the evaluations to Saturday, May 4th. We will be hosting our evaluation camp for all draft eligible players this on May 4th, 2019, from 1pm-3pm at the Blackburn Arena Diamond. The address for the Blackburn Arena is 200 Glen Park Dr, Gloucester, ON K1B 5A3.

This is not a tryout. It’s a “practice” to shake off some rust and meet all the new guys. Simple ground balls, fly balls and baseball warm up drills. Each player will also hit some live batting practice. We evaluate players to ensure parity while dispersing them within the leagues 8 teams. We will provide balls, bats and helmets. We do ask that you have your own glove and baseball attire. Metal cleats are permitted but not required in the league. If you have not already signed up, you may do so on site Saturday. Hope to see everyone out in fine form!


2019 BMFL Registration

Good Day Gentlemen!

The 2019 season is quickly approaching and therefore registration is right around the corner! There will be an in person Registration Date on March 18th at the Blackburn Arms from 7:30-9pm.

We are always looking for new players and will do our best to accommodate special requests. If you have any friends looking for a little more competition than slow pitch or simply a great place to play, encourage them to try our league!

Our new player evaluation day is tentatively scheduled for Saturday April 27th from 1-3pm at the Blackburn Arena Diamond. Registration fee of $250 will remain the same as last season. Early bird registration discount, of $20, will apply to all players who pay in full ($230) before April 1st. Cheques may be made out to Blackburn Men’s Fastball League or BMFL, e-transfers may be sent to our Treasurer, Mike Brownhill (mikebrownhill@gmail.com). Please make the password BMFL2019, put your name in the transaction details/other field or we will not know who has sent the money. E-Transfers make take a few hours to process so please do not wait until the last minute to send them.
